Safety and Security

"Watch Out"                                                     WO@theneighbornet.com

This is a communication and resource service for Neighborhood Watch Programs, Neighborhood Improvement Teams, Resident Councils or Neighborhood Association participants.  Since in introduction in 2005, it has provided urgent communications between concerned individuals, committed civic organizations and community groups interested in making safer happier and healthier neighborhoods.

Please let us know if you are interested in forming or joining one of these programs in your ‘neck of the woods’!

"Bar and Ban Share"                                                   BBS@theneighbornet.com

Working with local law enforcement, this co-op program is designed to reduce criminal activity though open communications between apartment managers and property owners through out the state.

The reporting on this listing does not necessarily document an arrest or a conviction.  It does indicate, however, that the individuals were involved in criminal activities which resulted in a ban by local Police Officers or their eviction, barring or banning by property management (for actions which violated local ordinances, state or federal laws.)

To help out property owners

"Honey Do Projects"                                                     brokenbroke@theneighbornet.com

This is a resource for property owners who find there is a need for property repairs but who lack the resources to get them done.  It includes the assignment of non-profit-volunteer work crews, donated supply resources, coordination and/or assistance with local, state and federal grant programs and a HUD or LITC rehabilitation program “questions and answer” forum.

"Vacant Units"                                                                                 vacancies@theneighbornet.com

If you have vacant units or need to know where to refer someone (in your town or another city) this is great connection to make.  Our listing of available apartments or rental houses; their rates and descriptions, is updated daily.  We use it to refer inquiries from participants and volunteers from the 20 Kansas counties (and 1 in Missouri) where our various outreach programs operate.

If you have openings or know of tenants who are moving ‘out of town’ and need a good place to call home, please let us know!

To help out residents

“Due over “                                                                                        bad_situation@theneighbornet.com

This is a referral and advocacy resource for those in abusive or hopeless living situations.  It offers a fresh start through programs and services which include: free GED and employment placement programs, mail forwarding and screening services, transportation and housing ‘connections’ and some limited financial assistance.

"Helping Funds"                                                                              funds@theneighbornet.com

This is a service which tries to find financial assistance in the areas of rent, utilities and prescription medications for residents unable to pay the total monthly amount of these debts.   Fund amounts vary per county; depending on the services and resources offered by local agencies. We have some limited ‘encumbered’ supplemental subsidies offered on city or county-based eligibility basis (when all other resources are exhausted or unavailable.)

"Pantry, closet and household items"                                   give_n_take@theneighbornet.com

This program is 2 way street!  It pairs generous donors with residents in need of food stuffs, hygiene items, gently used clothes and small household items or appliances.

It also includes a ‘give and take’ program for foodstuffs,  (i.e. “I have too many cans of green beans and want to trade some for cans of corn”) and another program that puts folk in need of larger items on a ‘wish list’ for match-making with those who are willing to donate the ‘big stuff’ (like a couch or bed).

"Food Stamp Outreach"                                                               FoodStamps@theneighbornet.com

Many times residents who live at income contingent properties are eligible for food stamp benefits, but are either unaware of the program qualifications or uncomfortable with the application process.  This is a pilot program which is offered through a partnership with the USDA and Ks Social and Rehabilitation Services.  It allows property owners or property managers to pre-screen residents for potential eligibility and to work through a non-profit liaison to assist with the application process.  The liaison also assists residents in gathering verification documents and then links residents to the SRS office for eligibility determination for food stamp benefits.

"Young at Heart"                                                             seniors_kiddos@theneighbornet.com

There are a variety of program and services with target youth under the age of 16 and adults 55 years or older.  If you have a resident who falls on either side of the ‘spectrum’ and is need of assistance, enrichment or company, please email us for what options may be available.

"Extreme Temperatures"                                            weatheralerts@theneighbornet.com

We live in Kansas…and that says it all!  This program is designed to assure that when Kansas weather is at its most extreme, those most vulnerable are not forgotten.   We pair frail or elderly residents with pre-screened volunteers.  When the weather comfort index is either ‘way too hot or way too cold’, these volunteers make sure that their assigned residents are safe, comfortable and cared-for.

To help out 'us'

 “Designated Donations”                                              cash_for_the_county@theneighbornet.com

This is the contact if you want to make an ‘encumbered donation’.  Donations can be designated for a particular city, county or state or stipulated for a program classification (i.e. emergency assistance, senior  or youth services, etc.)  We take credit cards and checks and will let you know the ‘general details’ of how and where your donation is used.

“Volunteer Sign-up                                                      willing_mammals@theneighbornet.com

We are always in need of man-power and truck-bed space to stage and perform the many outreach programs we offer.  Big hearts, strong backs, good intentions and good cooks; any and all skills and skill levels are needed.  If you would like to lend and hand, brighten a day or change a life, please let us know!  Boy…do we have a job for you:>)
